I’m the president and founder of Hoagy’s Heroes, long distance charity riders, Hoagy Carmichael. We go and promote long distance charity rides. Anywhere from 1000-mile days to 1500-mile days, even world record breakers of 2,036 miles; we even have a little short 500-mile run. We also do this for charity. So far, since 2004, we’ve raised somewhere around $208,000 in pledges, ridden over 800,000 miles in our charity run. People came in from about 30 different states. 4 Provinces of Canada.
We even had a school teacher fly in one time from Saudi Arabia and rode with us. Very impressive.
I started this back in 2004 by accident but it’s grown into a small business. We are totally 100 % non-profit, we will give away 100 % of our pledge money that we bring in to our charities, which are a Special Wish Foundation, Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, and Augusta Levy Learning Center in Wheeling, West Virginia because they get no state funding.
We’re anywhere from male, female, old, young. Our oldest rider’s probably been somewhere about 75 years old and do thousand mile days, to young kids down in their twenties.
It’s not for everybody. I’m not going to lie to you. If you do an Iron Butt ride, you’re either going to say, “Wow, that’s terrible, I hate it!” or, “Wow, what’s next? I can’t wait for the next challenge!”
Hopefully, the thing grows bigger and bigger. If you need me my cellphone is on our website. We also have a Hoagy’s Heroes Incorporated Facebook page if you go to our website, go up to the top left-hand corner and click on that and that will go to my Hoagy’s Heroes Facebook page.
We do not have an advertising budget, so if everybody shares this, we can grow. It’s all from giving from the heart. If you can’t help us, we can’t help the children.
