On August 14, 2022, a man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on I-79. The motorist, identified as 68-year-old Charles Delaney, had been traveling on the southbound side close to mile marker 143 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed on the right side of the highway. Law enforcement was notified and dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:30 pm. As a result of the accident, the interstate was closed for around three hours after the crash, not reopening until late afternoon.

West Virginia Car Accident Statistics

According to the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) recent State Highway Safety Report for West Virginia, there were 267 highway fatalities in the state that year.   • US-340 between WV-9 and Shoreline Dr
  • I-79 between the Pennsylvania border and exit 155
  • I-81 between exit 8 and Henshaw Rd
