Did You Know that July 4this Deadliest Day for Drivers?

Keep it Fun by Keeping it SafeThe 4thof July almost always tops the list for car crashes. In addition to becoming one of our biggest days of national celebration, this day also has become one of the deadliest days of the year for motorists in the Morgantown area, and nearly half of these accidents related to alcohol in Mon County.

When you are driving on the weekend of the 4th, you will notice an increase in law enforcement patrols and checkpoints during times of celebration, a wise strategy implemented to deter car accidents, drowsy or drunk driving, speeding, and recklessness on our highways.

One of the most popular ways to watch a fireworks display in Morgantown is viewing from the water of Cheat Lake after a fun day of boating. Please keep in mind though, just as drunk vehicle drivers create hazards on our roads, drunk boaters pose dangers on our local waterways to other boaters, passengers, and families. When a boater is found operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, he or she may be held legally and financially responsible for injuries resulting from impaired boating and may face criminal penalties as well.

Impaired driving is not only irresponsible and may lead to injuries or death, it also carries serious car insurance consequences. If your insurer is notified that you have been convicted of a DUI, your car insurance may be cancelled or non-renewed, or at least the cost to you will increase substantially as you will be classified in a high risk category.

Independence Day should be a time of fun celebration. If your celebrations will include alcohol, please use a designated driver or make arrangements other than driving yourself.
