An Aurora woman was killed in ahead-on collisionon Veterans Memorial Highway in Terra Alta on Thursday, August 14, 2014. State Police say the thirty-fouryear old woman was driving west on Route 7 in a curve east of Delano’s Furniture and west of Hopemont Hospital at about 2:30 p.m. Her vehicle was struck head-on by a truck that had veered left-of-center and crashed into her car causing the fatal collision. A twenty-six year old in the truck was flown to Ruby Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.
W.Va. Rte 7 was closed for about three and a half hours. The emergency call-out stated that there were injuries, entrapment, and heavy damage caused by this collision.According to a press release from State Police, charges are pending against the truck’s driver.
Head on collisions occur from a variety of reasonsincluding DUI, distracted driving, inclement weather, health conditions, falling asleep at the wheel, and traveling the wrong way on a one-way lane or approach, texting while driving, brake failure, tire blowout, dangerous road conditions, and speeding. The exact cause of this crash remains under investigation.
Whatever the cause, the result is often tragic and ends in great loss for individuals and families. Since we first heard of this collision yesterday, truly our hearts and prayers are with the family members and friends who are grieving now.
