Two people died and another was injured from a car accident that happened in West Virginia on June 27. The wreck occurred at the 3 Mile Curve on Route 10 in Logan County. Police say a 53-year-old woman was driving with her 28-year-old son in the passenger seat northbound on Route 10 when the vehicle crossed over the centerline and collided head-on with a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.
Witness statements obtained by police indicate the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to decelerate appropriately for a curve up ahead. Fire department personnel needed to use extraction equipment to free the mother and son from their vehicle.
Both occupants were brought to Logan Regional Hospital to receive medical treatment, but they eventually succumbed to the injuries suffered in the crash. Police say neither of them was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred. The 25-year-old male driver in the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and was brought to the hospital as well. He was treated and released later that same day.
