An Aug. 9 accident on I-79 North in West Virginia involving a black Toyota Corolla and a tractor-trailer caused two women and minor to suffer injuries. According to emergency dispatchers, the afternoon collision in Kanawha County closed all lanes near the Mile 3 marker for approximately four hours.
Dispatchers reported to local news that the Toyota had rear-ended the truck. The front of the car became partially trapped under the trailer and was dragged until the 44-year-old driver of the truck was able to bring the semi to a stop. The three people in the Corolla had to be extricated from the car by emergency personnel.
The occupants of the Corolla were taken to CAMC General Hospital in nearby Charleston. One of the females in the car was said to be in serious condition. As of Aug. 10, an investigation into the accident was ongoing.
Rear-end collisions could cause serious spinal and head injuries to those involved. If a driver is found to have been speeding or following too closely behind another vehicle, that individual could be considered liable for any injuries a passenger suffered.
Injuredcar accidentvictims may decide to file a civil suit against the driver responsible for their injuries. If a case goes to trial, a lawyer could collect police reports and witness account to help substantiate the suit. Additionally, a lawyer could also represent victims in settlement negotiations with an insurance company. A victim’s compensation award may include medical care costs, lost wages and possibly pain and suffering depending on the circumstances.
